Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has stepped up efforts to strengthen unity within the All Progressives Congress in the state, following a meeting with Mohammed Audu, son of the late former governor, Abubakar Audu.
Ododo met Audu during a courtesy visit to his residence on Sunday, where they discussed the development of Kogi State, economic growth and efforts to improve the welfare of residents.
The meeting also focused on reconciliation among political stakeholders and the need for greater cooperation within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to a statement on Monday by the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the governor and Audu discussed ways of boosting the state’s economy, particularly through increased agricultural production and the development of the cashew value chain.
Fanwo said the governor’s engagement with Audu formed part of his wider consultations with stakeholders on how to expand economic opportunities, support farmers and maximise the value of Kogi’s agricultural resources.
Audu, according to the statement, expressed his willingness to work with the governor to attract more development to the state and stressed the importance of cooperation among political stakeholders.
He also commended Ododo for visiting his residence, describing him as the first serving governor of the state to do so.
Audu thanked the governor for organising the 10th anniversary commemoration of his father’s death and naming a road after him as Prince Abubakar Audu Boulevard.
He also expressed appreciation to former Governor Yahaya Bello for renaming Kogi State University, Anyigba, as Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, saying the gesture remained a lasting honour to his family.
The meeting further provided an avenue for discussions on reconciliation and stronger relationships among APC stakeholders in the state.
Audu urged Ododo to sustain his reconciliation efforts, saying the governor’s engagements were already producing positive results.
Fanwo said the consultations were also aimed at mobilising support for the administration of President Bola Tinubu and strengthening the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said Ododo remained committed to bringing political stakeholders together around the common goals of peace, economic growth and development in Kogi State.
