Nigerians are reacting to the Oba of Lagos’, Rilwan Akiolu, statemet that he lost $2 million and N17 million when hoodlums invalided his palace during the #EndSARS protest.
The Oba speaking in Lagos at the Glover memorial hall commissioning on Wednesday, said that he will not place a curse on the hoodlums who committed the crime
He also said that: “Those who committed the offence would not have done that if they knew the implication. But as a father, I won’t place any curse on them,” he added.
“I can now say it publicly that they stole from my palace two million dollars cash and N17 million, I am now saying it publicly.
“I am not a wealthy man, but I am a contented person and Insha Allahu, I will continue to be rich.
Many Nigerian are debating the legality of the Oba keeping such humongous amount at his home.
FESTUS OGUN @mrfestusogun said that under Section 43 and 44 of the 1999 Constitution the Oba has the right to keep such property. He said: ”On Oba of Lagos‘ Claim From a strict legal view, you have the right as a citizen to keep as much money as you want at your residence or anywhere whatsoever. Money is a personal property and the right to own property is guaranteed under Section 43 and 44 of the 1999 Constitution”
She said: In saner climes, Oba of Lagos would be investigated for money laundering for saying he lost $2m and N17m during the #EndSARS protests to hoodlums but this is Nigeria. In other news, the President has ordered security operatives to shoot on sight anyone seen with an AK-47.
This EFCC should not look away on this. The Oba of Lagos accused #EndSARS protesters of stealing $2,000,000 and #17,000,000 from his palace.
The question is why will he keep such money in his palace when the CBN has CASHLITE policy in place?
How did he get such volume of cash?— Prince AYOMITUNDE Yusuf 🗯#ENDSARS (@princioustunde) March 4, 2021
