Ogogo’s family fixes August 31 Fidau, announces artists’ tribute in Ilaro
The family of late veteran Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has announced further programmes to mark the completion of his Islamic burial rites and celebrate his contribution to the entertainment industry.
Ogogo, who died at 66 on Sunday, August 23, 2026, was buried in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday in accordance with Islamic rites.
The family announced the programmes in a statement shared on Facebook on Wednesday by veteran actor Jide Kosoko, who had earlier announced Ogogo’s death.
According to the statement, the eighth-day Fidau prayer will hold on Monday, August 31, in Ilaro, with the family calling on friends, colleagues, fans and well-wishers to join in praying for the deceased.
“The family humbly appeals to all friends, colleagues, fans, and well-wishers to continue to rally around the family during this difficult period,” the statement said.
The family also announced an Artists’ Day to be held 40 days after Ogogo’s burial at the Pavilion Hall in Ilaro.
The event is expected to bring together actors, musicians, comedians, singers and other entertainers for performances celebrating the actor’s life and legacy.
Kosoko said the Artists’ Day was in line with the tradition of the entertainment industry and would serve as a fitting tribute to Ogogo.
“This will be a special day of performances and entertainment featuring actors, musicians, comedians, singers, and other entertainers, who will come together to celebrate the life and legacy of Alhaji Babatunde Taiwo Hassan, a.k.a. Ogogo,” the family said.
The programme will be coordinated by the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria, TAMPAN.
The family also expressed appreciation to the large number of mourners, colleagues and fans who attended Ogogo’s burial, describing their turnout as a demonstration of the love and respect they had for the actor.
Ogogo was one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language cinema, having built a career spanning acting, producing and filmmaking from the early 1980s.
