The Senator representing Ogun West and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has appealed to his supporters to refrain from attacking other aspirants amid growing talks about the 2027 governorship race in Ogun State.
Adeola said he had been drawn to recent comments and opinions, especially on social media, following declarations by some prominent citizens expressing interest in the governorship contest.
He noted that some of his supporters, who have been urging him to run, had taken positions and made offensive remarks against other aspirants within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists on Monday, the lawmaker clarified that he had not issued any official statement on any aspirant’s ambition, nor had he responded to media attacks directed at him or his political career.
He also stated that he had not authorised anyone to speak or react on his behalf.
Adeola said, “I am presently focused on serving my constituents in Ogun West Senatorial District, Ogun State and indeed, Nigeria. It is not in my character to derogate, demean or ridicule any of my fellow party members based on their genuine aspirations.
“In view of this, I want to appeal to all my teeming supporters, well-wishers and loyalists to desist from attacking the person or ideals of any aspirant, ostensibly in my defence or support.
“This appeal is pursuant to a rancour-free process for all the upcoming activities of our party, APC, as we progress towards the general elections.
“I passionately appeal to all my supporters and party members to always bear in mind that we are all members of a great political family and we must eschew bitterness and rancour in our relationship.
“While I greatly appreciate the genuine love and support for me by my supporters, I urge restraint and caution in the days ahead.
“I urge all my supporters and loyalists not to be distracted and remain focused with eyes on the ball and the goal we have envisioned for our state for over a decade.
“In the future, let us continue to showcase the work that has been done by my humble self, the Governor of our state, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and President Bola Tinubu, under the Renewed Hope Agenda as we move toward party primaries and general elections in less than a year.
“Our focus should be on continuity of the ongoing reforms of our great party, APC, at both the state and national level and not on any unproductive internal bickering.”
