Ogun: Tinubu approves oil drilling at Tongeji Island

Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced that President Bola Tinubu has approved the commencement of commercial oil drilling at Tongeji Island in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The approval marks a significant milestone for the state, positioning it to become an oil-producing state.
In a post via X on Thursday, Governor Abiodun said the move would bring economic empowerment and development to the coastal communities.
He wrote, “We are pleased to announce that our dear leader and President, @officialABAT, GCFR has approved the commencement of commercial oil drilling at Tongeji Island in Ipokia Local Government Area, positioning Ogun State on the path to becoming an oil-producing state.
“This historic approval marks a major milestone for our coastal communities and opens a new chapter of inclusion, economic empowerment, and development for our people.”
He also revealed that President Tinubu has approved the take-off of the Olokola Deep Seaport project in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.
The seaport, known as the Blue Marine Economic Zone, is expected to decongest Lagos ports, create commercial opportunities, and boost the state’s economy.
The project is a multibillion-dollar investment that has been in the works for years.
Governor Abiodun commended the Nigerian Navy for establishing a Forward Operations Base at Tongeji Island, saying it would strengthen border security and protect the emerging oil activities.
He assured the government’s commitment to providing amenities for the island communities and collaborating with security agencies to maintain peace and stability in the state.
