Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing recent developments within the party in Delta State and his inability to advance the interests of his people.
The statement which was signed by his Media Adviser, Sunday Areh dated May 22, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of APC Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Omo-Agege said his decision followed wide consultations with associates and supporters.
The former lawmaker, who represented Delta Central Senatorial District and served as Deputy President of the 9th Senate, said the political direction of the APC no longer aligns with the aspirations of his constituents.
“I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria,” he declared.
Omo-Agege expressed appreciation to the APC for the opportunity to serve in various capacities, particularly as Deputy President of the Senate, but stated that he has formally requested the removal of his name from all party membership records and communication platforms.
The politician, popularly known as the Obarisi of Urhoboland, maintained that his priority remains the pursuit of development and effective representation for the people of Delta Central and the state at large.
He, however, did not disclose his next political destination, saying only that he would continue to pursue his political goals outside the APC.
The resignation is expected to trigger fresh political realignments in Delta State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
