Ondo to prosecute erring commercial cyclists over recklessness.

Worried by incesssant accidents through recklessness of some motorcycle operators popularly called ‘Okada’ in Ondo state, the State Government is putting in place some measures to curtail the act.
Already, the government has resolved to prosecute any motorcycle operator without relevant papers or number plate.

Also, the state government emphasized that the law banning motorcycle operators from operating beyond 8pm is still in force.

According to the Senior Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Security Matters, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo, several motorcycles have been impounded by Amotekun Corps.

He pointed out that there was no time the law prohibiting okada operations beyond 7 pm in the state was lifted as wrongly believed in some quarters.

Dojumo urged road users, mostly in urban centers to desist from reckless riding and overspeeding.

Many residents in Akure expressed displeasure over the recklessness of the motorcycle operators, calling for action against it by security agencies and the State Government.

An auto spare parts dealer in Ilesa garage, Akure, George Orizu, there had been cases of Okada accidents on daily basis in the last few weeks with casualties.

He said” Government should mandate leaders of Okada Riders Association in the state to warn their members on danger associated with reckless operation in the town.
