One girl was shot and severe others wounded this morning as an angry mob attacked the Medical Store road, Benin City location of a government warehouse loaded with drugs and Covid-19 palliatives.
The incident comes 48hours after the state governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki met with leaders and representatives of over 30 youth organisations in the state.
The governor had informed the youth leaders that training was already ongoing for 2000-man state-owned security network – Public Works Volunteer (PUWOV) and assured them of 60 per cent youths representation in his new cabinet.
Representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Civil Society Organisations and #EndSARS protesters in Edo State, said the peaceful protesters’ demands emanated from the pains Nigerians have suffered over the years.
A viral video of the mob showing the rampaging youths looting everything on sight at the warehouse including water tanks and iron rods, also had the girl with her bloody dress with several others being rushed out of the location.
The mob which sources say arrived as early as 4am initially resisted the armed security personnel who rushed to the scene but they succeeded in breaking into the warehouse and carted away cartons of Noodles among other food items.
There are indications that the mob made of boys and girls, women with children on their backs, came armed with various weapons like machetes, as they had a field day in the place.
