
Deji Adeyanju has hailed the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enita Ogunwusi, for setting up a committee for the release of Yoruba agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho who was arrested on Monday and is currently being held in Cotonou by the Government of Benin Republic, after he escaped arrest in his house in Ibadan a few days ago.
Adeyanju the Convener of Concerned Nigerian in a tweet, wrote “BREAKING: Ooni sets up committee on Igboho, rallies south-west leaders.
“All hail the Oni, Igbakeji Orisa. Shame on SE leaders. Fear, fear people. Northern leaders are still defending killer herdsmen after they killed over 20,000 Nigerians. Self-determination is not a crime.”
Also Akin Osuntokun, the committee coordinator, on Thursday, July said that the panel will investigate issues surrounding the activist’s ordeals,
He said “The Ooni of Ife inaugurated an advisory council comprising eminent Yoruba sons and daughters across the political spectrum. It is called the Ooni Caucus.
“The inauguration ceremony had been scheduled over a month ago and it is just an accident that it coincided with reports of Sunday Igboho’s arrest in Cotonou.
“Nonetheless, the council is actively interested in the new development and would appropriately respond in the nearest future.”
Recalled that the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, while receiving some residents, who were protesting against raiding of Sunday Igboho’s house by the operatives of Department of State Services (DSS), had appealed to supporters of Sunday Igboho to be peaceful and law-abiding in presenting their grievances.
While urging them to be patient with the government, the traditional ruler called for peace in Ibadanland and the entire state in general.
He assured the protesters that their demands for the release of those arrested in Igboho’s house within seven days would be presented to the appropriate quarters.
Also recently some aggrieved youths and people sympathetic to the plights of Sunday Igboho, on Wednesday staged a protest in major areas of Ibadan, Oyo State capital, calling for his release of the Yoruba activist.
The protesters took off from his house at the Soka area of Ibadan, carrying placards of various inscriptions, calling for the unconditional release of Igboho.
