OPay has explained how customers can establish their eligibility for the Federal Government’s monthly N50,000 cash assistance programme for vulnerable Nigerians, warning that the intervention is restricted to approved beneficiaries.
The digital financial services company said qualified customers would receive a notification on the homepage of their OPay mobile application, directing them to follow the required steps to access the support.
In a notice published on its X handle on Tuesday, the fintech explained that the absence of the notification on a customer’s application indicated that the individual had not been selected for the programme.
It emphasised that beneficiary selection was outside its authority, directing customers seeking clarification about their status to the designated government support channel.
“The ₦50,000 monthly Federal Government cash support is available only to eligible citizens. Eligible customers will see a pop-up notification on their OPay app homepage. Kindly click on the pop-up to proceed with the next steps,” the company stated.
OPay further advised customers who could not access the notification against assuming that they could claim the benefit through alternative channels.
“Please note that customers who are unable to see the feature on the app are not eligible for it. We do not determine your eligibility,” it added.
The company provided the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) contact number, 07000222222, for beneficiaries requiring assistance or further information about the programme.
It also cautioned customers against individuals and organisations seeking to exploit the relief scheme through fraudulent payment requests, fake registration links and attempts to obtain confidential banking details.
OPay stressed that neither its representatives nor authorised agents would request customers’ personal identification numbers (PINs) or one-time passwords (OTPs) to facilitate the disbursement.
“OPay will never ask for your PIN or OTP to process a NERSI relief payment. Do not pay any agent or click unverified links,” the company warned.
The fintech urged customers to verify their status exclusively through its official mobile application or by dialling the USSD code 95520#.
The clarification followed an earlier post by an X user who circulated information about the government assistance programme and shared USSD codes through which customers of participating financial service providers could check their eligibility.
The development has generated public interest in the monthly intervention, particularly among Nigerians seeking information about the application process, qualification requirements and payment arrangements.
