The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in Osun has appealed to the state government to assist farmers with farm inputs to boost food production in the state.
Mrs Teniade Aderemi, AFAN Chairperson in Ife Local Government Area, made the appeal during an enlightenment programme in Ile-Ife on Wednesday.
Our correspondent reports that the programme was organised for farmers, informal workers and artisans by the state’s Civic Engagement Centre.
Aderemi said the provision of more farm inputs like tractors, synthetic fertilisers, seedlings and irrigation would not only improve agricultural productivity but also stimulate agro-economic development in the state.
“We appeal to the government to intensify efforts towards food security in the state through adequate empowerment for farmers.
“We are in the rainy season and farmers are set for planting, but we need government support to boost food production in the state,” she said.

Also speaking, Mr Sooko Adewoyin, appealed to the state government to look into the demands of the farmers.
Adewoyin expressed the hope that the state government would approve the demands of the farmers in view of its commitment to the agricultural revolution in the state.
He commended Gov. Gboyega Oyetola for his commitment to the welfare of the masses and for the provision of basic amenities in the state.
In his remarks, Mr Olajide Adeyeye, the lawmaker representing Ife East in the state assembly, also eulogised the governor for his monumental achievements in the state.
Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Civic Engagement, said the enlightenment programme was a way of making the masses make significant contributions to the growth of the state.
Oyintiloye maintained that it was the resolve of the governor to allow voices and opinions of the people to become an input mechanism in the policy cycle.
He, however, assured the farmers that their demands would be given adequate consideration.
