Outgoing NERC Chairman Calls on Elite to Retool Nigeria

The outgoing Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, Professor Adeche James Momoh has called on the elites in the country to think good of the nation all the time and retool it for better fortunes.
Momoh made the appeal in Lagos during a visit to the office of the Chairman of Ikeja Electric saying that the task to reposition the fortunes of the country rests on the shoulders of every Nigerian.
He disclosed further that who he is today he owed it to the opportunity given to him by the Federal Government that awarded him a scholarship to pursue his dreams.
He said ‘I wrote it on my wall what it means to be an elite. I come to Nigeria as an elite to give back to my country. A country that gave me Federal government scholarship twice. Six degrees, Msc and PhD was given to me by this country. I must give back my knowledge. The country’s problem is my problem.’
He pleaded with the Chairman of Ikeja Electric to please help him impress it on the junior staff of the company that the country’s problems are in their hands. He praised the Chairman on creating such a wonderful platform that breeds creativity and innovation in the sector. He reiterated that ” If Ikeja gets it right, Lagos, Benin, Kaduna, Ibadan, Jos, Port-Harcourt, Yola, and everybody gets it right, we will make one of the top 2020 economies in the world”.
The retired NERC boss said it is only when there is sufficient energy that a nation can be considered to be making progress, adding that power must be available for all Nigerians so that everybody will be seen busy doing one meaningful thing. ” Without power we are going to be very lazy people, so, please i beg you, lets do all we can to fix Nigeria’s power problem. I appreciate the opportunity to come to this county and help contribute my quota. My engagement is not over. If I leave tomorrow and I am in the US, my mind will forever be seeking solutions to Nigeria’s problems. I will continue to believe in Nigeria despite my disengagement.
“Chairman what more can I say, we come from the same source of knowledge and wisdom. We thank God for giving it to us”, he finally remarked.
Responding in his remarks, the Chairman of Ikeja Electric, Mr. Kola Adesina said the company has always taken the customers interest into consideration because it is because of the customers the company is in existence.
He assured the NERC boss and his team to continue to show concern for whatever affects them as staff in the company see performance as one sure way to gauge the feelings out there.
He said, ‘We are with the customers. Without them we won’t exist. The fact is that the women and men you see here are the most empathetic managers and leaders I have seen. Each time in their decision making and rules of engagement, they always think of themselves as customers that are suffering. Hence, you see that there is an accelerated effort towards ensuring that whatever problem the customer is facing is quickly resolved.’
He went further to explain that, ‘we have a lot of consumers that are not customers. We have some consumers we want to convert them to customers. Meanwhile most of the people complaining to the public are consumers they are not customers. That is something I will say is equally very important “.
Adesina stated that the company is willing to continue to learn from the retiring boss and will appreciate his knowledge and experience on how to sustain customers relationship for better results.
