Outrage In NASS Over Borno Killings: Senate Demands Sack Of Service Chiefs Again
By Andy Asemota

Following outrage in the National Assembly over the recent killings of scores in Borno State by insurgents, the senate has called again on President Muhammad Buhari to sack the nation’s service chiefs.
The Red Chamber also urged the President to probe the allegations of corruption within the military and enthrone measures to ensure transparency and accountability in the application of resources provided in the prosecution of the fight against insurgency and general security lives and property.
The eight point resolution of the senate was sequel to a motion by Senator Kashim Shettima with contributions from many senators.
Highlighting the prayers, the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, insisted that the incident was one too many in the fight against insurgency, saying “let’s make this a turning point; people who have nothing to add should be shown the way out as there is nothing more important to Nigerians now than securing their lives.”
Other resolutions of the senate included a call on Buhari to recruit 10,000 JTF members in Borno under the aegis of NSDC to compliment the effort of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The law makers equally implored the President to adequately equip the armed forces with modern weapons and arms to overcome the fire power of insurgents as well as explore bilateral and multilateral cooperation and partnership with Chad, Niger and Cameroon towards the success of the war against insurgency.
The law makers in their separate contributions, lamented that the nation had spent huge resources on the theatres of war without commensurate results as they expressed concern that the senate had since two years ago been calling on the President to sack the service chiefs and review the leadership structure of the armed forces.
