Over 30 countries have confirmed their participation in the World Table Tennis (WTT) Contender Lagos which serves on June 12 through to June 18 at the Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and Executive Vice President of International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), Wahid Enitan Oshodi, who made known in Lagos, said that the WTT Contender Lagos promises to highly competitive and explosive going by the quality of players that have entered for point scoring tournament.
Former world number, Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Patrick Franziska, Meldhi Bouloussa, Taiwo Mati, Jide Omotayo, Fatimo Bello and Sarah De Nutte are among the 50 world top ranked ping pongers coming for the tournament which will also serve as point scoring event for the 2024 Paris Olympics in France.
“We expect a very high standard tournament. The quality of players and countries is very encouraging. Honestly, we are excited with the quality of players coming and we are looking forward to a kindly contested tournament.
“Players like Ovtcharov, Franziska, Meldhi Bouloussa, Taiwo Mati, Omotayo, and Sarah De Nutte amongst others look good to go,” he said.
Some of the countries that have sent in their entries are Korea Republic, Germany, Slovenia, Chinese Taipei, India, China, Slovakia and Egypt.
Other include, Poland, Portugal, Denmark, Ukraine, Algeria, Belgium, Italy, France, England, Côte d’Ivoire, Serbia, Ghana, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Wales, Sweden and Nigeria.
