Pantami: PDP accepts court order, says fresh Gombe primary will hold

The Peoples Democratic Party in Gombe State has accepted the Federal High Court judgment nullifying the primary that produced former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, as its 2027 governorship candidate and ordering a fresh exercise.

The party, however, noted that the judgment also validated Pantami’s membership and entry procedures into the PDP as well as his participation in the May 26, 2026, governorship primary.

In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Abdulkadir Ahmed Dukku, on Friday, the PDP said the judgment was being studied by its leadership and the contestants.

“The judgment is presently receiving the attention of the party leadership and contestants, while the legal implications and directives contained in the judgment are being studied,” the party stated.

The Federal High Court in Gombe had on Thursday nullified Pantami’s emergence as the PDP governorship candidate and ordered the party to conduct a fresh primary in accordance with its constitution, guidelines and applicable electoral laws.

The judgment followed a suit by PDP governorship aspirant Usman Aliyu Garry, who challenged the process through which Pantami emerged as the party’s candidate.

The PDP urged its members, supporters and stakeholders to remain calm and united while the leadership considers the implications of the judgment.

“At this stage, therefore, we urge all members, supporters and stakeholders of our great party in Gombe State to remain calm, peaceful and united,” the statement said.

The party also warned members against speculation, inflammatory statements and actions capable of creating unnecessary tension.

It assured members and supporters that it would take all necessary steps within the law to protect its legitimate interests and preserve its democratic integrity.

The PDP further called on all stakeholders to remain peaceful and committed to the ideals of democracy.
