Rivers commissioner, Woke resigns after bagging federal appointment

…laments non-payment of salary, allocation of portfolio
Engineer Chukwuemeka Woke, a commissioner-designate in the cabinet of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has resigned after he was appointed as the managing director and chief executive officer of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority.
A presidential aide, Ajuri Ngelale on Thursday in Abuja made the announcement.
Following his latest appointment, the politician resigned from his position in Fubara’s cabinet, lamenting that he had not received a portfolio or salary since his appointment by the governor.
Woke was re-nominated by Fubara and was confirmed by the State House of Assembly after the Presidential Peace Proclamation in Rivers State.

However, he has not been allowed to function since his appointment and confirmation as the governor failed to assign a portfolio to the engineer.
In his resignation letter, he wrote, “Consequently, the Oath of Office and Allegiance was administered on my by Your Excellency on 26th of January, 2024. However, I was not assigned any portfolio and no salary or allowance was paid to me.
“His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the President and Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, has graciously appointed me to serve in his government as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority.
“In view of the above, I hereby resign my appointment as a commissioner in your cabinet to enable me answer this call to national duty.”
