The former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Diran Odeyemi,  who is among the seven national officers that resigned their positions as members of the National Executive Council, has said that the party’s constitution is faulty.

Recall that Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Diran Odeyemi; Deputy National Legal Adviser, Ahmed Bello; Deputy National Women Leader, Umoru Hadizat; Deputy National Auditor Divine Amina Arong; Deputy National Organizing Secretary, Hassan Yakubu; and Deputy National Financial Secretary, Irona Alphonsus on Tuesday resigned their positions as PDP NEC members.

Odeyemi speaking on Arise TV on Thursday said that the PDP constitution is faulty ‘in the senses that you can not vote for vibrant politicians and expect them to go to the secretariat and look like extra tyres with out any function of what so ever’

The lamented that they have been Deputies for the past three years and they have been redundant doing nothing for the party hence the reason for their resignation.

He said: ‘We have been there for the past three and the half years and  we believe that no function has been assigned to us , we have not been useful and have not been fully engaged  and we thought within ourselves  that is either the party scrape the position of the Deputies  or carte a room for them and we believe that the only avenue to achieve this is to resigns massively and if we resign is to send a signal to them.’

He went on to say: ‘We are not doing anything there. What is benefit of a Deputy that is not doing anything?’

He went to say that the resignation got the attention of the stockholders, chairman,  governors as they were all called to a meeting.

‘We were called to a meeting and at that meeting we were assured that something will be done  we are not fighting for ourselves we have only three months to go we want the stakeholders to know that there should be a review of the constitution and that you don’t just vote for people and make them redundant, he said

Further he said that what they did was an internal party thing and that they did not inform the press saying that what they expected ‘after the submission of their resignation letters was for the party chairman Uche Secondus to call them and that they were baffled as to how the press got to know their action.

‘We did not resign from PDP and have no plan to join the APC all we did was to set the record straight.’ He said.

On the reports that Uche Secondus was shun out of the party’s meeting with the Deputies he said that Secondus was the one that addressed them saying when he (Secondus) saw our resignation letters he called that same night and that the phone was placed on speaker (since he was in London) so that he can speak to the chairman as his other colleagues  were physically present with the chairman at the meeting to make their grievances known and Secondus promised to address it the next day.

He went on to say that on Wednesday Secondus called them and addressed them pleading that they have few months to go and that there is no point in resigning. He enjoined them to come together and organizes a conference and handover to incoming National Executive Council.

He also said that in doing that they have made their grievance known and it will be addressed in the coming convention and that they will take a decision to withdraw their resignation.
