PDP Crisis: Ayu won’t resign until Atiku wins next year, Adamawa Senator says

By Nathaniel Zaccheaus

The Peoples Democratic Party Senator representing Adamawa South Senatorial District, in the Senate, Yaroe Binos, has said the National Chairman of PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, can not resign now until Atiku Abubakar would have won the presidential election next year.

He said anyone who truly love the party would desist from causing crisis during the current campaign period.

Governors like Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Samuel Ortom (Benue), former governors Ayo Fayose (Ekiti), Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo) and a former deputy chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George among others, have vowed not to be part of the Atiku’s campaign unless Ayu voluntarily resign as the National Chairman.

But Binos, who addressed journalists in Abuja at the weekend at the art exhibition organised by his artist son Stephen, said the aggrieved people knew that it was impossible for Ayu to resign now until a convention would be held next year.

The Senator who is from the same Senatorial District with Atiku, lamented that the PDP presidential candidate had done everything possible to persuade and pacify the aggrieved politicians to no avail.

He said, “It is wrong for anyone to say that the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has not done enough to resolve the crisis in the party.

“After the presidential primary, in which he emerged as the party’s flag bearer, he reached out to all aggrieved party members, especially those who contested against him.

“Alhaji Atiku has done enough. He has reached out to aggrieved members and he’s still reaching out. But some people think that they can hold the party and the presidential candidate to ransom and blackmail him to do what is not right.

“The argument of the aggrieved members is that why wi the North produce both the party chairman and the presidential candidate. But this is not the first time it will happen in PDP”

The Senator recalled that it was not the first time that the PDP would produce the national chairman and the presidential candidate from the northern part of the country.

He said, “In 2017, when the late Umaru Musa Yar’adua was the presidential candidate of PDP, Ahmadu Ali was the party’s chairman, both of them from the North.

“The need to move the chairmanship of the party from the North to the South did not arise until after the election and inauguration of Yar’adua.

“This is what we are saying. For now, the best thing to do is for the party leaders and members to come to together and face the elections before us. When we win the election, we can hold convention and re-zone the key positions in the National Working Committee.

“Saying that Dr Ayu should step down now will be contrary to PDP’s constitution.

“For those causing crisis, if they truly love the party, they won’t be causing rift at this critical moment when elections are coming”

The Senator’s Artist Son told journalists that he put up the exhibition to celebrate the youths who were making the nation proud in the areas of sports and the creative industry, especially entertainment.

He said, “It is my idea of pushing Nigeria out to the World for more recognition and support because they are really doing great in the areas of sports and entertainment.

” I’m therefore making my little contributions through sketches to further celebrate them. ”
