PDP Primaries: Ibori’s daughter beat Okowa’s candidate

Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, a daughter of Chief James Onanefe Ibori, erstwhile Governor of Delta State has emerged winner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) run-off primaries election conducted on Tuesday for the Ethiope Federal Constituency in Delta State.

She beat her rival, Hon. Ben Igbakpa, was widely believed in Delta’s political circle as the candidate of incumbent Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

At the re-run primaries held at Oghara Township Stadium, Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu polled 46 votes while her rival, Hon. Ben Igbakpa, the serving lawmaker representing the constituency, scored only 22 votes.

The two contestants had initially tied by scoring 34 votes respectively when the primaries were earlier conducted.

Fejiro Oliver, a PDP stalwart in Delta had posted on his Facebook page shortly after the announcement of the run-off election result that “the contest was between Ibori and Okowa NOT Ben Igbakpa and Erhitake”.

He wrote further, “The only candidate Okowa and I were on the same page with was Ben Igbakpa. Till this very morning, Okowa’s instruction was for Ben to be voted in by delegates. This I can tell you for free”.

Also, at the Sapele Township Stadium where another PDP primaries run-off was conducted for the Okpe/Sapele/Uvwie Federal Constituency, the former Commissioner for Water Resources in the State, Barr. Evelyn Oboro polled 45 votes to beat her opponent, Chief Napoleon Gbinije, who scored 36 votes.

They had both recorded 25 votes respectively when the primaries were initially conducted.
