PDP Wins C’River Bye- Elections

The Peoples Democratic Party has won the Cross River State Bye- Elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The Bye- elections was precipitated by the sudden demise of the Senator representing Cross River North, Rose Oko and member representing Obudu State Constituency, Godwin Akwaji.
For the Cross River North Senatorial by elections, Dr. Stephen Odey (PDP) emerged victorious having garnered 129, 207 votes.
The Collation Officer for senatorial by-election, Prof. Ameh Akoh of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ikwo, Ebonyi State announced the results at Ogoja.
He added that the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Joe Again (SAN) scored 19,165 votes to place second while African Democratic Congress, Mr Gregory Agam came third with 388 votes among others.
“The PDP candidate having scored the highest number of votes cast is hereby declared winner in line with electoral guidelines, ” he said.
In the same vein, the PDP candidate Mrs Maria Akwaji  also won the Obudu State Constituency by scoring 32,166 votes to defeat her closest rival, Mr Abor Adaji of APC who scored 3,546 votes.
The Collation Officer, Prof. Abel Ezeoha of Alex Ekwueme Federal University of Technology, Ikwo Ebonyi State announced the result after Collation from different polling units.
Mrs Akwaji succeeds her husband who died early this year at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital following an undisclosed ailment.
According to the INEC, Nine Political Parties contested for senatorial by-election and six for the Assembly.
