Businessman docked for criminal trespass

A businessman, Isah Shehu, was on Thursday docked in Zuba Upper Area Court, Abuja, for alleged criminal trespass.

The police charged Shehu with criminal trespass and fraudulent execution of deeds of transfer.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr. Chinedu Ogada, told the court that on Nov.15, 2021, at about 12:50p.m, Mr. Kabiru Oriyomi, reported the matter of the Area Command Headquarters, Kubwa through a letter of petition.

He said Oriyomi had an unresolved domestic issue with his wife Rachel and was detained at the Suleja Correctional Centre, Niger State in 2018.

He said that in 2020 while still in detention, Kabiru discovered that the defendant criminally trespassed into his residence, located in Zone 7, Duste Alhaji.

Ogada alleged that the defendant occupied the complainant’s family house without his knowledge.

He told the court that police investigation revealed that the defendant also fraudulently consented to the execution of a deed of transfer, which contained false statements.

The counsel said the offense contravened the provisions of sections 48 and 177 of the Penal Code Law.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Presiding Judge, Ismailia Abdullahi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum N200, 000, with one surety in like sum.

Abdullahi ordered that the surety must be a civil servant on Grade Level 10 and must submit a passport photograph and photocopies of credentials, which must be verified by the court registrar.

He adjourned the matter until Feb. 2, for a hearing.
