President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured of his administration’s readiness to support the FCT Administration in every way.
The president gave the assurance on Thursday while inaugurating three roads in the FCT city centre.
Tinubu was represented by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio at the inauguration.
The president noted that the completion of the three roads was a testament to his administration’s unwavering commitment to infrastructural development and urban renewal.
He appreciated the sterling performance of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, as well as the significance of the roads in the FCT city centre.
“We recognise that an efficient transport network remains vital for economic growth, social integration, and overall national development,” the President said.
He noted that the roads would “enhance economic activities, improve accessibility and a higher quality of life for our citizens.”
“Roads B6 (Constitution Avenue) and Road B12 (Independence Avenue) are located in Abuja’s Central Area District,” he said.
The commissioned roads are significant as they link the three-arm zone, cultural and diplomatic zones as well as ministries, state liaison offices, and corporate and commercial offices.
“The completion of these roads remains a demonstration of what we can achieve through dedicated planning, unwavering commitment, and elaborate collaborative efforts. These roads are designed to alleviate traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and provide a more seamless connection between key areas within our capital city,” he said.
The president further commended Wike, saying, “Hard work, dedication, and adherence to higher standards of quality have made these achievements possible.”
He, however, noted that despite the tremendous achievements so far, a lot more needs to be done.
Akpabio said Tinubu came to the office with determination and anger to change things as he was angry with the way things were before he came.
He enjoined Nigerians to drive around Abuja at night, especially from the airport “and you will know that Wike is working.”
Earlier, Wike noted that just within one year of President Tinubu in office, the road project that had lasted for 17 years was completed.
“Mr. President, it will interest you to know that this road was awarded on 14th of May, 2007 at the cost of N48.5bn. It was later revised in January 2021 at the cost of N98.8bn,” he said.
Wike also commended President Tinubu for his practical demonstration of leadership. “Right leadership gives the right results and it’s because we have that now, that we can get the right result.”
He stated that at an inauguration of projects in August 2023, he gave a marching order that any project that had not been completed must be completed before embarking on any new one.
In her welcome address, the FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, said the projects were boosters of the economy.
She commended the president and the minister for their vision and pragmatic leadership.
She also appreciated Abuja residents for their patience and cooperation during the project execution.
“As we embark on this new journey, let us strive to utilize this infrastructure responsibly and sustainably for the betterment of our city,” she noted.
Giving the overview of the project earlier, the Executive Secretary of FCDA, Shehu Hadi Ahmad, explained that the projects were in the city centre and would enhance free and speedy movement at the airport and presidential routes.
He explained that the B6 is 6.6 km, B12 is 6.7 km, while Circle Road is 46 km, carrying 41 bridges and rail crossings, including 112 resining walls.
