A violent protest broke out in Udu, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State over scarcity of the new naira notes.
In some videos shared on social media, the protesters could be seen tearing down campaign posters, billboards and throwing objects in the air.
The protesters also allegedly razed down a branch of Access Bank in the area over their inability to make cash withdrawals or deposit their old naira notes.
ThisNigeria reported that the Central Bank of Nigeria has declared that the old naira notes were no longer legal tenders.
During a brief with the media on Monday, the Branch controller of the CBN for Bauchi state, Haladu Idris Andaza declared that the old N200, N500 and 1000-naira notes are no longer recognized as legal tenders in the country.

He said, “In the last 24 hours, we have been inundated by questions from various angles of the general public about our operational guidelines on the old currency notes, be that as it may, there are so many questions here and there which people have been asking about.”
“So for the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state categorically that CBN is ready and is opened to receive all of those old notes based on certain conditions and criteria.”
