Police arrest Mr Ibu’s children for stealing millions of naira from donations

Nollywood actor, Mr Ibu’s children, have been arrested for allegedly stealing N55m from his donations meant for his medical treatment.

The Police Force confirmed the arrest of Mr Ibu’s son, Oyeabuchi Daniel Okafor and his adopted daughter Jasmine Chioma Okekeagwu in a statement.

ThisNigeria reported that Mr Ibu, who is known for his comic roles in movies, has been battling with a serious health condition since last year and has undergone a series of surgeries.

He had appealed to his fans and the public to support him financially to seek further treatment abroad.

According to the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID), Alagbon, in Ikoyi, Lagos State, the suspects, Onyeabuchi Okafor, and Jasmine Okekeagwu hacked into Mr Ibu’s phone and bank account and transferred the money to their accounts.

The FCIID said it received a petition from Diamond Waves Law on behalf of Mr Ibu’s wife, Stella Okafor, who alleged that her husband’s children conspired with his adopted daughter, Jasmine, to defraud their father.

The FCIID spokesperson, Mayegun Amina, said in the statement that the suspects re-installed the mobile banking applications of Mr Ibu on Onyeabuchi’s phone and wiped off the original ones on Mr Ibu’s phone, thereby taking full control of his banking activities.

The statement said that the suspects transferred N55m from Mr Ibu’s public fundraising account to Onyeabuchi’s account and planned to use the money to travel to the UK, where they had a sham marriage at the Ikoyi Marriage Registry.

The FCIID said it recovered the stolen money and also found incriminating text messages between Jasmine and Onyeabuchi, detailing how they plotted and executed their criminal scheme.

According to the statement, the suspects would be charged in court soon.
