Police assure of adequate security during Christmas, New Year Celebrations

...urge citizens to be law abiding

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Mr. Echeng Echeng has assured citizens and residents of the State of the Command’s readiness to perform its statutory responsibility of protecting lives and properties during the Christmas and New year celebrations.

He also ordered the deployment of officers and men comprising conventional police, traffic wardens, and other tactical teams of the Command as well as necessary logistics to all major highways, residential areas, places of worship and places of public resort for effective security.

Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Awka the state capital cautioned that the “personnel deployed for this critical assignment are under strict instruction to be civil, professional but firm in the discharge of their duties.”

He said the “Command is already in partnership with sister security agencies and all critical stakeholders to ensure that, the celebration is peaceful and hitch-free.”

According to the police spokesperson “the CP further advised motorists to always obey traffic rules and reiterate the ban on the use of fireworks, knockouts and other explosives during festivities is still in force.”

He noted that the use of knockouts and fireworks, aside from constituting nuisance and disturbance to public peace and safety, was also capable of causing unnecessary fear and apprehension and other dangers associated to its usage especially during the harmattan period.”

Police assure Ondo residents of tight security

The command reiterated that the use of knockouts and fireworks help to the possibility of providing an escape space for criminals after the commission of a crime.

It pointed out that the Command is prepared to deal with hoodlums and other disgruntled elements that may attempt to cause break down of law and order before, during, and after the festive period.

The state police boss extended his warm greetings to Christian faithful and other citizens in the state, as they celebrate Christmas and New Year and enjoined them to be vigilant and security conscious and to report all suspicious movements to the police or, in case of any emergencies, to call the operatives for immediate response.
