The Police Command in Anambra State has confirmed the kidnap of Okechukwu Okoye, a lawmaker representing Aguata Constituency 1 in the State House of Assembly.
Okoye, an indigene of Isuofia, hails from the same community as Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State.
The lawmaker was kidnapped in Aguata on Sunday.
Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga confirmed the kidnap on Monday in an interview with journalists in Awka.

He said the lawmaker’s black Sienna bus, which he was driving before the incident, had been recovered.
Ikenga said the command had launched a manhunt for the kidnappers with the aim of rescuing him.
“Hon. Okechukwu Okoye was kidnapped this evening, Sunday, 15th May, 2022.
Popularly called ‘Okey Di Okay’, Hon. Okoye represents Aguata II in the state house of assembly, and is from Isuofia, the home town of Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
He is also the Chairman of the House Committee on Information.

It is not known if Hon. Okoye was the target of the abductors, or if this was a random attack.
A member of the state House of Assembly, and Chief whip of the house, Hon Pete Ibida said that the kidnap of Okechukwu has not been confirmed by the house.
