Police foils kidnap attempt of an expatriate, kill 1 bandit in Kaduna

The Police Command in Kaduna State says its operatives has foiled a kidnap attempt of an Indian expatiate, while a bandit was killed during an encounter.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Kaduna.

Jalige said that the incident occured on June 21, at about 21:33hrs when policemen on escort duty of an expatriate to Plan Farm Phase at Dankande area of Igabi Local Government Area of the state ran into an ambush laid by suspected bandits.

He said the bandits, who in their desperate attempt to kidnap the expatriate, shot berserkly at the escort team, but met stiffer resistance from the operatives.

According to him, the gun duel lasted for some times but the operatives were able to repel the bandits and secure the expatriate unhurt.

He said that the bandits fled into nearby forest with bullet wounds.

“A joint team of the Police and military personnel while on search of the area on Tuesday, June 22, recovered a dead body of one of the bandit.

“The team also recovered four AK-47 magazines fully loaded with 120 rounds of live 7.62 X 39mm ammunitions and a mobile phone,” Jalige said.

He added that the recovered body has been deposited at the morgue of a hospital while forensic analysis of the recovered phone is being carried out to get detail information about the gang.

The spokesman said the state Commissioner of Police Umar Muri has commended the act exhibited by the operatives and urged others to emulate same.
