Police nab three Ogun students over suspected cult initiation

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three secondary school students, including a 12-year-old, over a suspected cult initiation in Owode-Yewa.

The arrests followed intelligence about a planned cult-related gathering tagged “Kito Day”, which was allegedly expected to involve students from different secondary schools in the area.

The command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the police received the information on October 22 and immediately deployed detectives from the Owode-Yewa division.

The operation was carried out in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.

According to the police, officers arrested the three suspects, aged 12, 18 and 18, and recovered items suspected to be connected to the planned activity.

“The operation led to the arrest of the three suspects and the recovery of one English axe, two knives, one short cutlass, one rubber toy gun and a school bag,” the statement said.

The command did not disclose the names of the students or the specific schools they attend.

It said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

“The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, today, 23rd October 2026, for further investigation and possible prosecution,” the statement added.
