Police rescue four abducted teenage girls in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has rescued four teenage girls abducted by suspected kidnappers in Fika Local Government Area of the state.

The victims, aged between 15 and 17 years, were rescued unharmed following a coordinated operation by police officers and local vigilantes after gunmen attacked Didim Village on Saturday.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, saying the incident occurred at about 2:23 p.m. when armed men invaded the community and abducted the four girls.

According to him, the Fika Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call shortly after the attack, prompting the immediate deployment of operatives attached to the Kukar Gadu Police Outstation.

He said the officers, working in collaboration with local vigilantes, launched a rescue mission, while additional personnel from the division were deployed to reinforce the operation.

“The sustained effort led to the successful rescue of all four victims without injuries,” the statement said.

Following their rescue, the girls were taken to the Kukar Gadu Primary Health Care Centre, where they received medical examination and other necessary support before being reunited with their families.

The police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend members of the kidnapping gang who fled during the rescue operation.

Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has directed officers to intensify intelligence-led operations to ensure the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the attack.

The command also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible and timely information on suspicious persons, movements and vehicles to aid efforts at tackling criminal activities across the state.
