
Official activities at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, were crippled yesterday, due to a power outage which lasted all day.
The entire complex was thrown into darkness. This, however, led to decreased productivity, and employees were forced to use the stairs.
The Ministry of Niger Delta, now Ministry of Regional Affairs, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster management, Ministry of Special Duties and intergovernmental Affairs, Ministry of Aviation were all affected.
Other departments of the Federal government in the building include Code of Conduct Bureau, Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria ( FAAN) among others experienced total blackout.
This rendered the activities of the ministeries and government departments low for over two days.
The Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamu could not access his office, which is on the 7th floor.
ThisNigeria findings revealed that the only lift working, was exclusively meant for the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster management, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Dr Yakubu Adam Kofarmata, who are on the 5th floor.
One of the operators of the lift, Mrs Grace Yelwa, said the Ministry of the Humanitarian Affairs powered their lift with Solar energy and as such the lifft is not open to public use.
A staff of one of the ministries, Kola Odewile, said the various ministeries have refused to fuel their generators in the building, thereby making life difficult for the workers.
