The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu has noted that whoever emerges as the party’s presidential flag bearer is only the symbol of the party and will be approached by the spirit that guided the convention.
Adamu made these remarks during the presentation of reports of the presidential screening committee led by Chief John Odigie Oyegun saying this is the day the party has been waiting for.
He said: ” Whoever emerges to be the flag bearer for the party is only the symbol of the party. I hope that the spirit in which we approach the convention will guide everyone.
” This is the day we have been waiting for to receive the report of this very imminent committee that seat and considered, interacted, appraise the submission of all the members of the aspiring community of the presidential election. I listen with very keen interest to the comment that the chairman made in the course of this submission.
” One thing I found worthy is the fact that the Nigerian youth have responded, they have among them people who reap the spirit of competition and offered themselves to be considered the important office in the land. They have done this thinking of the spirit of one of the acts we passed sometimes during the 8th national assembly; the act of not too young to run”, he stated.
On the participation of youth in the presidential race, the National chairman said it is a good thing and it will further enhance and encourage everyone to be part of the workings of the party because the sense of belonging is key.
” So I feel encouraged, we feel encouraged as a party that young people and the young women have offered themselves to contest for this office. We received the report now on each of them.
“We will consider on a very highest level of the party and see how we would approach before the forthcoming convention which has ultimate authority on the choice of who takes the flag of our party. The flag does not belong to me, it doesn’t belong to any one of us. It is the flag of the party and corporate body called the APC”.

Also, on the issue of the South and North divide, he explained: “We hoped that due consideration will be given based on the fact available to those who will be opportune behind the decision”, he reiterated.
