Prince Philip’s life was one of service, a pattern of good works, Atiku mourns

The former Vice President of Nigeria and the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has mourned the passage of the United Kingdom’s  Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip the husband of Queen Elizabeth II.

Atiku on his Twitter handle said the works of Prince Philip, which saw him as the patron of some 800 causes and organisations, will also be warmly remembered.

He added that the Duke of Edinburgh, was a man whose life was one of service and a pattern of good works

Atiku said: ‘The death of His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, is a sad loss to the commonwealth and the world. This was a man whose life was one of service and a pattern of good works.

‘His charitable works, which saw him as the patron of some 800 causes and organisations, will also be warmly remembered. On behalf of my family and my supporters, I condole with the British Royal Family and pray that the Almighty will grant them the fortitude to bear their loss.

‘His military service, and the dutifully supportive role he played by the side of Her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, will forever be remembered, and indeed studied, as an epitome of royalty and loyalty.’

Prince Philip, who was married to Queen Elizabeth II for more than seven decades and the longest-serving consort in British history, died on Friday. He was 99.

Atiku said he  met Prince Philip during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting of 2003, which held in Abuja, and was hosted by  President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Atiku further said that Prince Philip military service, and the dutifully supportive role he played by the side of Her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, will forever be remembered, and indeed studied, as an epitome of royalty and loyalty.
