Profile: Meet Nuhu Ribadu, new National Security Adviser

President Bola Tinubu on Monday appointed Nuhu Ribadu as his new National Security Adviser(NSA).

Ribadu was appointed  NSA after a short appointment as a special adviser on security to the president.

The newly appointed NSA was born on 21 November 1960 in Yola,Adamawa .

Nuhu Ribadu Biography

He attended Mustapha Primary School from 1966 to 1973 in Adamawa and Yelwa Government Secondary School, Yola from 1973 to 1978. He attended College of Preliminary Studies, Yola for his A-levels from 1978 to 1980.

From 1980 until 1983,Ribadu studied law at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Kaduna state, where he received his bachelors of Law degree. he was called to Bar in 1984 and also holds a Master of Laws degree from the same university.

Ribadu joined the Nigerian Police Force shortly after graduation and held the positions of Assistant Superintendent of Police, Nigeria Police Force, January 1, 1986; Divisional Crime Officer for Ajegunle, Mushin, Apapa from 1990 to 1997; Force CID. AIagbon Close, Ugos; dep. Superintendent of Police, 1992; Superintendent of Police, 1995; Chief Superintendent of Police, 1998; asst comm. of Police, 2002; Head, Ugal and Prosecution Department, NPF.

Nuhu Ribadu was the first chairman of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) appointed by Former president Olusegun Obasanjo from 2003-2007.

Within a few months of his emergence as chairman, the Commission took out of circulation all the 419 kingpins (419 in Nigerian parlance, means offenders whose crimes are contrary to Section 419 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). These where people hitherto considered untouchable. The Fred Ajuduas, the Emmanuel Nwudes, the Maurice Ibekwes, the Ade Bendels, the Amaka Anajembas and the NzeribeOkolis among many others were all arrested and prosecuted.

In 2014, Ribadu had run for presidency under  the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) .He also contested for governorship of Adamawa in 2019 and 2023 under the ruling All Progressive Party.

Ribadu was appointed by President Bola Tinubu as National Security Officer on 19 June 2023.
