Protesters lock down Auchi

By Victor Ofure Osehobo, Benin

The protest by Nigerian youths has hit Auchi, the administrative headquarters of the Etsako West local government and the North district senatorial of Edo state on Monday as vehicles bound for the Federal capital, Abuja became stranded.

The protesters gathered in their hundreds at the popular Jattu junction, Auchi, but without any #EndSARS placard or banner or visible leader to either address or give directions to the protesting youths.

As early as 8am, majority of the youths trooped into Auchi town from adjourning communities, and linked up with their fellow comrades as the protest gathered momentum.

By 10am, more youths joined the protest, as they quickly moved to barricade the popular Jattu junction in the town with used tyres and wood.

The Jattu junction is the link road for vehicles heading towards Abuja, but with the barricades, vehicular and pedestrian traffic along the busy Abuja – Auchi – Okene highway came to a total halt.

There was, however, no report of molestations but the youths were seen cooking on streets and sharing goat meat among themselves.
