Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has distributed 10,000 25kg bags of rice to vulnerable FCT Muslims to cushion the effect of the Ramadan fast.
At an event in Abuja yesterday, the Minister, represented by his Chief of Staff, Chief Chidi Amadi, cautioned the leaders to ensure that the product reaches all the listed beneficiary groups.
Wike said, “Ramadan is a unique time and season in the lives of our Muslim brothers. It’s a period with profound religious implications. This season is marked by fasting, prayer, and almsgiving.
“I want to urge our religious leaders and associations to please ensure that these items are well distributed as soon as they are made available to you. It’s a time when we need to identify with the needy, the less privileged, and those who truly need some form of assistance.
“As we distribute these items today, we urge you to please try as much as possible to identify our brothers and sisters and young ones amongst you who are in need and ensure that they participate in this gift.”
The Minister also urged other corporate and non-governmental bodies to identify with this season, reach out to our religious organisations, and help the needy.
Speaking with the Chief of Staff after the presentation, Amadi said, “This is a testament to how the Minister identifies with the religious community and the value he places on it.
“What we are doing here today is to exemplify the Minister’s empathy with our brothers and sisters, the less privileged, that in this season will require one way or the other to be reached out to.
“You can see that the symbolic handover today reflects most religious groups in general. We have the imams and their leadership groups, the religious associations, the students, the schools, the less privileged, and they’re all involved here.”
The beneficiary groups were FCT School for the Deaf, Abuja Lepers Colony, the Body of Imams, and several other vulnerable Muslim groups.
