UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya has tendered an apology for a statement directed at a fellow fighter, Kevin Holland.
In a now deleted video on Instagram, Adesanya told Holland “Bro, I will fuckin’ rape you.”
The comment sparked outrage on social media, with people calling on the UFC to take action against Adesanya.
Adesanya, in a statement posted on his Twitter handle on Friday, apologised for the comment and admitted that he crossed the line.

“Last week fight talk escalated to a point in which I crossed the line. I understand the gravity of this word and how it can affect and hurt other people apart from my opponent, although that was never my intention.
“I am still growing under the spotlight, and I take this as a lesson to be more selective with words under pressure,” the statement read.
