Reps invite Rivers administrator for interactive session

The House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight has invited the state administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), to appear before it for an interactive session aimed at ascertaining the current state of affairs in the state.

This was made known in a statement issued on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, following the Committee’s inaugural meeting at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

The session follows President Bola Tinubu’s recent proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State, which was ratified by the National Assembly.

The meeting was chaired by (Prof.) Julius Ihonvbere, House Leader and Chairman of the Ad-Hoc Committee reviewed early reports and developments in the state since the Sole Administrator assumed office.

“In line with its mandate to monitor the situation in Rivers State and exercise full legislative oversight under Section 11 (4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Committee resolved, among other matters, to invite the Sole Administrator for a comprehensive interactive session,” the statement read.

The session is scheduled for Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 4:00 PM in Room 414 of the House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex.

The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, due diligence, and upholding constitutional responsibilities in the interest of the Nigerian people.

Vice Admiral Ibas was appointed Sole Administrator after the federal government declared a state of emergency in the oil-rich state, citing escalating political tensions and threats to public order.
