Concerned Stakeholders and Parents in Ondo State have pleaded with Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to revive the abolished free shuttle buses programefor school children.
Findings revealed that the buses are lying fallow in some premises of Vehicle Inspection Offices and local Government Secretariat’s across the state.
Many of these Buses were burnt down in various loçations across the state during the EndSars īmpasse. It was a great losses for the state government.
Shuttle Buses for Students in the State worked at its peak during the last administration of Dr Olusegun Mimiko conveying students from their homes to Schools and back homes.
A parent from Okeagbe, Idowu Durojaye described the free shuttle buses scheme as an incentives to educational advancement and a big relief for indigent pupils and parents.
She lamented that the long under utilisation and parking of shuttle buses for over three years without usage will tantamount to loss of revenue while many spare parts will be rotten away.
A secondary school student in Akure, Jamiu Agboola lamented that trekking almost six kilometers daily from home to school describing the developing as rigorous and energy-sapping
He lamented that his parents could not afford N500 daily for his tranportation.
They advised government to sell some of the vehicles,ND use the proceeds to maintain others .
Many stakeholders noted that most of the drivers and bus conductors engaged for that scheme are now idle .
The resuscitation of the scheme would reduce mass unemployment in the state.
