Rite Foods Strengthens Sustainability Efforts with Lower Carbon Emissions and Water Use

Rite Foods Limited has announced major progress in its environmental sustainability efforts, recording significant reductions in carbon emissions, water consumption, energy use and waste generation in 2025.

The company shared the achievements during the presentation of its 2025 Sustainability Report to journalists. Speaking at the event, the Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, Ekuma Eze, said the report reflects Rite Foods’ commitment to transparency, responsible manufacturing and protecting the environment.

Eze explained that although Rite Foods is not legally required to publish a sustainability report because it is not a publicly listed company, it chooses to do so to demonstrate accountability and keep stakeholders informed about its environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.

He noted that manufacturing naturally affects the environment, making it important for companies to adopt practices that reduce their impact while maintaining efficient operations.

According to the report, Rite Foods reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 5 per cent between 2024 and 2025. The company also achieved a 23 per cent reduction in carbon intensity, bringing it closer to its long-term goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060.

Water conservation also remained a key focus during the year. Eze said improved operational efficiency and better water management helped the company cut its water use by 50 per cent, despite the importance of water as a major raw material in beverage production.

In addition, Rite Foods reduced its energy use ratio by 7 per cent, even as production increased. The company attributed the improvement to better technology, efficient production processes and energy-saving initiatives.

The report further showed a 27 per cent reduction in solid waste generation, highlighting the company’s efforts to improve resource efficiency and reduce waste across its manufacturing operations.

Beyond improving its internal operations, Rite Foods also expanded its environmental partnerships to support plastic waste recovery and recycling.

Through its “Rite on the Beach” initiative, carried out in partnership with Pop Beach Club, the company recovered more than 42 tonnes of plastic waste from coastal communities across Lagos in 2025.

Eze also disclosed that Rite Foods’ partnership with the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA) helped recover more than 800 tonnes of plastic waste from the environment, with 558.2 tonnes linked directly to the company’s recycling efforts.

Some of the recycled plastics were turned into school bags, which were distributed to over 2,000 pupils in schools across Lagos, Ogun State and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, showing how recycled materials can create value for communities.

Eze said the achievements demonstrate Rite Foods’ commitment to reducing its environmental footprint while contributing to sustainable development through innovation, efficient resource management and strategic partnerships.

He reaffirmed that the company will continue investing in initiatives that promote responsible manufacturing and support a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future.
