Rivers crisis: Wike, Fubara, Amaewhule, lawmakers meet with President Tinubu

 

There is an indication that the protracted crisis rocking the Rivers State political landscape may soon become a thing of the past as the political gladiators enmeshed in the crisis met yesterday in Abuja.

The  FCT Minister, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, suspended Rivers governor, Siminalayi Fubara, Speaker Martins Amaewhule, lawmakers from Rivers State met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu late yesterday night.

Other political stalwarts were on hand to witness the significant meeting, since emergency rule was invoked on the state following political schism between gladiators on both sides. Details of what transpired at the meeting remain unclear as at the time of this report.

This  development has elicited some hope that the truce may not be too faraway.

It will be recalled that President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in a nationwide broadcast on 18 March 2025, suspending Fubara alongside his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, and all the members of the state House of Assembly, for six months.

Tinubu said that the decision was taken to restore stability in the state.

Consequently, he appointed retire Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas as the state’s adminstrator to oversee governance.
