Rivers guber: Appeal Court upholds Governor Fubara’s election

An Appeal Court sitting in Lagos has upheld the election victory of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

In a judgement delivered on Tuesday, the court dismissed the petition filed by Tonye-Cole of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against governor Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Tonye-Cole had prayed to the court to nullify the election as he alleged that Fubara was still signing documents as Accountant-General of the State even after his nomination as the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP.

The APC candidate also asked the Appeal Court to order the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare him the winner of the March 11th guber polls.

Recall that the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had in October thrown out Tonye’s petition, ruling that the state APC chapter that sponsored his ambition had withdrawn the petition against Fubara’s victory.
