Rivers PDP factional chairman accuses Fubara of deception

...throws support behind Wike, Tinubu

A factional Caretaker Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Dr. Nname Ewor, has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of deceiving party members by claiming he could snatch political control of the state from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, only to later defect from the PDP.

Ewor made the allegation on Thursday while addressing journalists in Port Harcourt, where he also demanded that Governor Fubara publicly disclose the full details of the peace agreement brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu before the lifting of the emergency rule in the state.

According to Ewor, the mandate being exercised by Governor Fubara belongs to the people of Rivers State and, as such, the governor owes them full transparency over all agreements entered into on their behalf.

“The mandate he is holding was given to him by Rivers people. All his actions and inactions affect those whose mandate he is holding. It is therefore incumbent on him at this time to fully disclose to Rivers people the agreement he entered into in the peace deal brokered by the President before the emergency rule was lifted,” he said.

Ewor recalled that Governor Fubara was elected for a four-year term but became embroiled in a political crisis with members of the Rivers State House of Assembly within his first year in office.

He said the disagreement culminated in the bombing of the Assembly complex and eventually led to a peace pact brokered by President Tinubu.

He noted that the collapse of that initial agreement plunged the state into a prolonged political crisis, which resulted in the declaration of a state of emergency in March 2025.

He added that during the crisis, many PDP members were misled by what he described as propaganda, which gave the impression that Governor Fubara could successfully challenge Wike’s political influence in the state.

“Rather than give us the true picture of things, we were fed with lies and propaganda, making us believe that the governor would wrestle political control from Wike,” Ewor said.

He further stated that another peace pact was brokered by President Tinubu during the period of emergency rule, but unlike the earlier agreement, it was not documented and Rivers people were not informed of its contents.

According to him, the failure of that agreement eventually led to Governor Fubara’s defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in December 2025.

Ewor said the PDP had challenged the declaration of the state of emergency at the Supreme Court in a bid to protect its mandate, only for the governor to “take that mandate” to the APC.

He also accused Governor Fubara of boasting that President Tinubu would compel members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to pass the state budget and would also force Wike to work for his re-election.

In addition, Ewor spoke on the PDP National Convention held in Ibadan in November 2025, noting that Governor Fubara was still a PDP member and sitting governor at the time.

He said Rivers State fully participated in the convention, which dissolved the Rivers State Executive Committee of the party, even though the governor did not attend for reasons unknown to him.

Describing the situation as one affecting the corporate interest, welfare and peaceful governance of Rivers State, Ewor reiterated the demand that Governor Fubara should fully disclose all agreements reached with the president.

“This is the only way he can be accountable and responsible to the people of Rivers State, who gave him the mandate and will decide whether to renew it or not in the 2027 general elections,” he said.

Ewor, who described himself as aligning with the political direction of the FCT minister, also declared his support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
