With three gold and one silver medals, Team Rivers emerged champions of the maiden edition of the Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (MOB) National Taekwondo Team Championship held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium Surulere, Lagos which ended on Saturday 19th of September 2026.
Team Lagos finished 2nd with two gold, three silver and one bronze medals, while the 3rd position went to team N. Youth Abuja that had one gold and one silver medals.
Team Lagos maintained her traditional position as the team to beat when it comes to pomsae by winning the senior men pomsae gold and the senior women gold and silver medals while team Rivers claimed the Senior men, senior women and senior mixed Kyorugi gold medals to stay on top of the medal table.
Sponsor of the championship, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele speaks on the energy sapping championship which he said has come to stay.
“I’m impressed with the performance of the athletes. It’s encouraging and gives hope of further world champions in the making.
“I’m really happy to be a part of this. That this game has come to stay, is not going to be a one off. Already I’ve been in discussion with the federation to make it an all inclusive annual event. by God’s grace, it’s going to be more involving and a lot more would happen,” he said.
