Rotary Club urges FG to speedily resolve doctors’ strike

The Rotary Club District 9110 has appealed to Federal Government to ensure amicable settlement of the ongoing industrial action by National Association of Resident Doctors.

Mr. Okechukwu Uche-Ukah, the club’s Assistant District Governor, made the appeal on the sideline of the installation of Rotarian Jude Kedienhon as the 17th President of Rotary Club, Ojodu, on Sunday in Lagos.

He said that government must take decisive steps to end the ongoing strike and the proposed industrial action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

According to him, health and education are critical sectors that affect lives, wellbeing, knowledge, development and productivity.

He stressed that education was critical to the country’s pursuit of reducing poverty, improving health and promoting peace, saying government must endeavor to avert ASUU impending strike.

Uche-Ukah noted that collective responsibility was required to drive progress, adding that Rotary Club since its inception had undertaken projects and programmes to drive sustainable development.

Also, Kedienhon said that his projects for the service year 2021 to 2022 would focus on disease prevention and treatment; water and sanitation; maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, among others.

Kedienhon said that the club would conduct malaria test and distribute mosquito treated nets to pregnant women, nursing mothers and children within Ojodu communities to prevent malaria disease.

According to him, the club will donate hospital equipment to primary health centers and provide health insurance to indigent families in the area.

Kedienhon said his tenure would drive membership growth and engagement, build partnership and networks, and consolidate on major projects, among others.

He said that the club was passionate about serving humanity and identified areas in the society where there were lapses and bridge the gaps.

Kedienhon stated his commitment to uphold legacy of past leaders of the club and to strengthen socio-economic development in Ojodu community.
