A 24-year-old sales representative, Muhammed Bashir, on Thursday appeared in an Upper Area Court Gwagwalada, FCT, for allegedly defrauding his employer of N557,400.
The police charged Bashir with criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The Prosecution Counsel, Abdullahi Tanko, told the court that the complainant, Omoniyi Salami, of Kurmi-Mashi, Kaduna State, reported the matter at the Gwagwalada Police Station on Oct.1, 2021.
Tanko said that the complainant employed the defendant as a sales representative for New Extension All Round Microcredit Company in Gwagwalada.
He said that the defendant was to disburse and recover money from customers with interest and remit to the company.
The prosecutor said that the defendant disbursed and recovered N557,400 but converted it to his personal use.
The offense, he said, contravenes the provisions of sections 314 and 320 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Judge, Malam Sani Umar, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N600,000 with one surety in like sum, which must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
