A Central Area Court in Jos, on Wednesday, sentenced a sales representative, Geoffrey Sam to 13 months imprisonment for stealing N120,000 from his employer.
Sam was charged with theft.
Delivering judgment, a panel of judges, Malam Ghazali Adam and Mr. Hyacenth Dolnanan sentenced Sam, after he pleaded guilty to theft and begged the court for leniency.
The panel, however, gave the convict an option of an N30,000 fine.
The panel also ordered the convict to pay N120,000 in compensation to the complainant.
”If the convict fails to pay the money to the complainant, he will be remanded in a correctional center for six months,” they held.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Gowkat told the court that the case was reported at the ‘C’ Division Police station Jos, on Feb. 4, by Mr. Douglas Idris, the complainant.
He said that the convict broke into the complainant’s desk drawer and stole N120,000.
Gowkat said the offense contravened the provisions of Section 274 of the Plateau Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
