Sales representative docked for alleged negligent conduct

A 25- year-old sales representative, Maria Shaibu, was on Wednesday docked in Magistrates’ Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, for alleged negligent conduct.

The police charged Shaibu a resident of Angwan dodo Gwagwalada, Abuja with negligent conduct.

The Prosecution Counsel, Abdullahi Tanko told the court that the complainant, Jamila Abubakar of Giri, Gwagwalada Abuja, reported the matter at the police station on Oct. 7.

Tanko said that the defendant was employed as a sales representative at a chicken feeds plant in Zampol plaza in Gwagwalada.

He said that on Oct. 6 the defendant made sales worth N578,800 and negligently kept the money without due care.

He said that the money was stolen through the office window and during the investigation, the defendant could not give a satisfactory of what happened.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 196 of the Penal Code.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Defence Counsel, Isaac Adakole prayed the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms, citing Sections 158 and 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), to buttress his claims for bail.

Magistrate Oladunmoye Olatunji admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

Olatunji ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must present means of identification to the court.

He adjourned the case until Oct. 21 for a hearing.
