Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on Thursday evening commissioned the Government House Clinic and the Administrative Building built and equipped by the Nyesom Wike administration.
Saraki commended the governor’s investment in healthcare and urged those entrusted with the running of the Government House Clinic to operate the place sustainably so that it can serve many generations of people that will be needing healthcare in the place.
Governor Wike said the hospital and Administrative complexes were ready long ago but the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown prevented the importation of the facilities that were fitted in the hospital.
He said the Government House Clinic, the Mother and Child Hospital and the Rivers State University Medical School were among the investments that the state government made to boost healthcare in the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Princewill Dike, said the hospital is fitted sophisticated facilities that can transmit information about diagnosis to any part of the world, and is manned by specialist doctors.
He stated that with the inauguration of the Government House Clinic, Governor Wike has put an end to Nigerians doing medical tourism abroad.
The chairman of the Rivers State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association, Prof. Chizindu Alikor, praised Wike for all the investments he has made in healthcare, particularly in the teaching hospital, medical scholarship, the Mother and Child Hospital and the teaching hospital.
The two complexes were built by German construction giants, Julius Berger Nigeria PLC
