
Confusion has enveloped a popular maternity hospital in Nkpologwu in Aguata local government area of Anambra’ State as four new babies were allegedly taken captive by gunmen who attacked the facility.
The incident, t was gathered, happened on Tuesday night, but was not known to members of the community until Wednesday morning.
A source in the area said “It happened in our community, and people have been discussing it since Wednesday morning. They said some gunmen stormed the hospital (name withheld) and took away four babies from the hospital”.

“From what people are saying in the community, no one was injured, and no one was killed in the attack too. The motive for the invasion of the hospital was not known to anyone.”
According to the source, “some people said they could have taken the babies to sell them to childless individuals, but others said it could be for ritual purposes.”
The Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Tochukwu Ikenga, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), when contacted said the command was not aware of the incident. “I don’t have such a report before me now,” he said.
There were fears that the attackers may have targeted the newly born babies for either rituals or to sell them.
