A member of the House of Representatives, representing Chinkun/ Kajuru Federal constituency, Kaduna state, Yakubu Barde ,has urged the federal government to seek assistance from the United States and China to put an end to kidnappings and other criminalities in the country
He spoke against Monday abduction of about 140 students of Bethel Baptist school in Kaduna
15 students among those abducted were immediately rescued by some security personnel after a gun duel that claimed lives of two security men.
Speaking to newsmen, Tuesday in Abuja, Barde who represents the affected constituency where the school is located , said it was time the Nigerian military and the federal government sought foreign assistance because it appears they are overwhelmed by the insurgency in the country
He noted that such assistance from foreign countries like China and the United States will help to stop the Kidnapping and other Insecurity menace in the country
Barde expressed concern over the Kaduna case following which 13 schools have been closed by the state government.
He challenged the federal government to unban the use of gun by citizens in the country if it can not ensure the safety of the masses.
Sokoto Assembly passes GBV Bill
“I think the time has come that the government should legalise gun, so that if you know that I have a gun and you’re coming to attack me, all I need is to have better training over you: you have Ak-47 and I also have AK-47, if I have better training than you, I will kill you.” he said
“I, Hon Yakubu Barde, I am calling on the federal government to unban guns : let all Nigerians have a gun like phones. But before that, let us be very careful also, the necessary machinery should be put in place to make sure that if anybody commits a crime with the gun, let justice catch up with such a person” he added
Continuing Barde noted “Oh, you kill my brothers and you say the government should negotiate with you and empower you, so, me that you have killed my person, how do you want me to have confidence in the government?
“For me, I am with my governor who’s said he won’t pay ransom. But like I said, maybe he didn’t need to say it. ‘It is not everything that the stomach knows that the mouth should say.’”,
